Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 tablespoons very cold unsalted butter
  • ½ cup very cold heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon chai spice blend
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 heaping cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons chai spice blend
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • Pinch of kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, pulse together flour, sugar, baking powder, chai spice blend, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter cubes and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a measuring cup, whisk together heavy cream and eggs; gradually combine this with the dry mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Gently shape the dough into a disc on a floured surface and chill for 30 minutes in the freezer.
  6. Roll out to about an inch thick and cut into wedges or triangles.
  7. Brush with egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the maple chai glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, chai spice blend, vanilla extract, heavy cream, maple syrup, and salt.
  9. Once baked and cooled slightly, dip each scone into the glaze or drizzle it on top.
